TCM fertility support

Preparing for pregnancy, with both medicines

Fertility-related checkups for both partners at a large hospital, a consultation with a TCM gynaecology physician, and a calm stay while you begin a course of care. Private, unhurried, with a coordinator beside you.

Both partners, both systems

Tests first, then a TCM plan

TCM physicians in China see many couples who are trying to conceive. They still take your pulse and look at your tongue, but they plan best when modern test results are on the table, for both of you.

Checkups for both partners

A general health checkup, plus the fertility-related tests a hospital doctor orders, such as hormone tests and a pelvic ultrasound for women and a semen analysis for men. Reports in English.

TCM gynaecology consultation

The physician asks about your cycle, sleep, digestion and stress, reads your test results, looks at your tongue and takes your pulse. Partners can be seen too.

A plan for the months ahead

Which therapies suit you, how often, and the food, exercise and routine to follow at home. Most plans run over several menstrual cycles, not one visit.

How the programme runs

A first stay, then months of follow-up

Fertility support takes time, so the programme follows you home.

  1. First stay: 2–3 weeks in KunmingCheckups for both partners, three or four TCM gynaecology consultations, a course of 10–12 acupuncture sessions, herbal medicine if suitable, and tai chi every morning.
  2. Follow-up from home: 3–6 monthsVideo consultations with the same physician once or twice a month, your plan adjusted as you go, and a weekly check-in from your coordinator.
  3. Return visits, if you want themOne or two weeks for a review and another course of acupuncture, which can be timed around fertility treatment at home.

Tai chi and Baduanjin

Every morning, together

Each day starts with 30 to 45 minutes of tai chi or Baduanjin, the Eight Brocades, with an instructor in a park. Slow movement and steady breathing are a gentle way to set down the stress that trying to conceive can bring.

You go home with a short routine and follow-along videos, so you can keep practising together.

What TCM support can include

Chosen by the physician, at your pace

Acupuncture

A course of sessions at a licensed hospital, with sterile, single-use needles. Often timed to your cycle.

Herbal medicine

Prescribed only after a face-to-face consultation. The physician tells you when to stop, including as soon as you might be pregnant.

Food and daily routine

Practical advice on meals, sleep, exercise and stress, written down to take home. Halal and vegetarian meals on request.

Tai chi and Baduanjin

A morning class every day, and a routine to keep up at home. More about tai chi with us.

As a couple

Appointments for both of you, planned on the same days, with time together in between.

Follow-up from home

Video consultations with the same physician between visits, and help planning a return stay if you want one.

Already seeing a fertility clinic?

TCM alongside your fertility treatment

If you are having or planning IVF or other assisted reproduction, your fertility specialist leads your care. TCM support is planned around their treatment schedule, with their agreement.

  • Tell both doctors. Your fertility clinic should know about any acupuncture or herbs, and the TCM physician should see your treatment plan and medicines.
  • Herbs need extra care during fertility treatment, as they can interact with hormone medicines. The physician may advise acupuncture only.
  • Bring your records: previous test results, treatment cycles and a list of everything you take.

Realistic expectations

What we can and cannot promise

  • No promised outcomes. Nobody can promise a pregnancy, and we do not publish success rates. Research on acupuncture and herbs for fertility has mixed results.
  • See a fertility specialist if you have been trying for a year without success, or for six months if you are 35 or over, or sooner if you have irregular or absent periods or a known condition. TCM support does not replace that.
  • Complementary care. TCM sits alongside your own doctor's care, never in place of it. Do not stop prescribed medicines unless your doctor advises it.
  • Licensed practitioners only. All consultations and therapies are given by licensed physicians at licensed hospitals or clinics. We coordinate; the hospital provides the care.
  • Herbs and travel home. Rules on bringing herbs into your country differ, and we help you check them before you buy.

Questions

Fertility support FAQ

How long should the first visit be?
Two to three weeks lets you finish the checkups, see the TCM physician several times and complete a first course of acupuncture. The plan then continues at home for three to six months, with video follow-ups and, if you want, a return visit.
Does my husband need to come?
It helps. Fertility is about both partners, and the doctors plan best with both sets of results. If he cannot travel, bring his recent test results and the physician will advise.
Can I do this while I'm already pregnant?
This programme is for couples preparing for pregnancy. If you are pregnant, please see your own doctor and do not start herbs or acupuncture without their agreement.
Can I take herbs home?
Often yes, but the rules differ by country and some ingredients are restricted. Keep products in their labelled packaging with the prescription, and ask us to help you check the rules before you buy.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the tests, the number of sessions and the length of stay. You get a written, itemised quote before you travel, with hospital fees listed separately from our service.
